According to on\u2011chain sleuth Lookonchain, \u201cthe Bitcoin\u202fOG with\u202f 80,009\u202fBTC\u202f($9.46\u202fB) has transferred\u202f 40,009\u202fBTC\u202f($4.68\u202fB) to\u202fGalaxy Digital,\u201d and Galaxy \u201chas directly deposited 6,000\u202fBTC\u202f($706\u202fM) into\u202fBinance and\u202fBybit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bitcoin OG Whale Awakens<\/h2>\n

The activity Galaxy Digital\u2019s custodial accounts before the decisive push that brought the running total to 40,009\u202fBTC. Blockchain explorers show the coins originated from a bech32 address that first received block rewards in early 2011, when bitcoin changed hands for less than one US dollar.<\/p>\n

Notably, Galaxy Digital operates one of the largest over\u2011the\u2011counter (OTC) desks in the industry and regularly intermediates block trades for institutions seeking to avoid slippage on public venues. The firm advertises \u201cpremier execution\u201d and bespoke liquidity provisioning for trades that are too large for order\u2011book execution.<\/p>\n

On\u2011chain analysts therefore read the wallet\u2019s choice of counterparty as a signal that the owner intends to liquidate at least part of the hoard discreetly rather than deploy it into DeFi or cold storage. Within hours of receiving the coins, Galaxy split 6,000\u202fBTC between Binance and Bybit, the two venues that currently post the deepest spot\u2011BTC liquidity.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin had just printed an all\u2011time high of\u202f$123,153 on 14\u202fJuly, buoyed by Washington\u2019s \u201cCrypto Week\u201d legislative push. As the OG whale\u2019s transactions hit public mempools, spot prices recoiled more than\u202f6%, sliding from $123,000 to an intraday low near\u202f$115,700 before stabilising around\u202f$116,900 at press time.<\/p>\n

With half of the stash now under Galaxy\u2019s control and only a fraction confirmed as exchange deposits, traders are bracing for further transfers. If Galaxy executes an OTC cross, the impact could be muted; if the coins bleed into order books, bids at $112,000\u2011$115,000 will face a major test.<\/p>\n

US Inflation Data Dampens Sentiment<\/h2>\n

However, today\u2019s price drop can not solely be attributed to the OG whale\u2019s doing; it coincided with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics\u2019 June CPI print, which showed headline consumer prices rising\u202f0.3\u202f% month\u2011on\u2011month and\u202f2.7\u202f% year\u2011on\u2011year\u2014up from\u202f2.4\u202f% in May\u2014while core CPI ticked up\u202f0.2\u202f% on the month and\u202f2.9\u202f% on the year.<\/p>\n

The modest print pushed the dollar index above\u202f95.5, and risk assets have been whipsawing ever since. \u201cThe price action on the dollar pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this CPI report\u2014mixed and the market is trying to digest it and to figure out the direction today,\u201d observed<\/a> Daan\u202fCrypto\u202fTrades on X.<\/p>\n
